On a recent visit to Chesapeake Energy (34 on the FORTUNE 100 Best Companies to Work) I was reminded of how by focusing on the “how” best companies are able to sustain and deepen what makes them special. Within 2 minutes on campus the friendliness, energy and excitement was clear. As I was being shown around, we came to the new underground parking lot. There was a lot to notice about the lot itself, but the most remarkable choice they made was to have a 5 ft tall “Good Morning!” and “Have A Nice Day!” painted on opposite walls of the entrance/exit. So friendly, so hospitable…How’d they think of that?
